'I canNOT believe these texts': Landlord shuts off power to entire complex for 2 hours because he believes the emergency alert will make everyone 'spontaneously combust'

We all get a little delulu at times and act according to what we truly think is the right way. Only from stepping away, gathering empathy, and really taking a good look at the entire picture do you have your epiphany that maybe, just maybe, you were getting a little out of hand there. 

Unfortunately, there are many people out there who, for some reason or another, cannot take those steps towards self realization and they make it everyone around them's problem. That is exactly what happened with this delulu landlord recently. 

Everyone remembers the emergency broadcast that happened several days ago, right? Well, apparently, if you went down a dark and deep rabbit hole on the web you would find that many people believed that it would cause some serious chaos with our electronics and, in some cases, human spontaneous combustion. (Remember Y2K anyone?) This landlord was convinced all this chaos was bound to happen when the alert went off, so he told all of his tenants he was going to cut the power for 2-3 hours in the middle of the day while it was going off. 

This was very inconvenient, especially since many worked from home. The rabbit hole this story induces is a whole other ride. See for yourself below! The Redditor got interviewed by YouTuber Matt Binder about it and he even started a GoFundMe to help him fund moving out.

    Font - heard there will be an Emergency Broadcast System (EBS) this Wednesday at 2:20pm EST. It seems most don't know. I have been following this for the last few weeks, and the concern has been brewing about it.     Font - power on the phone. want your cell pinging them back. I would even wrap the phone in aluminum foil, for safe measure. If you leave the premises during this time, I'd follow the same idea for cell, and also stay away from any computer, TV or Radio that may be on.     Font - Before the emergency broadcast went out today, I contacted my local police department for them to have an officer come and speak with him. They spoke with him and left. Shortly after he shut the power off for the entire complex using the exterior power breakers at around 1:48pm EST. I spotted him walking away from the breaker boxes with another individual leaving me and everyone else in the complex without power

    Font - for what would be a total of over 2 hours. I immediately contacted the police again to get another officer out to the apartments. I went outside to try and turn my breaker back on, but it just so happens that my breaker box had a padlock blocking the case where the switch was so I had no way of being able to turn my power back on without some industrial bolt cutters to cut said padlock.     Font - was ONLY blocking my breaker switch as well! The officer verified with my electric company that I was the bill payer and went to speak with my landlord when he arrived. While the officer was in the apartment speaking with my landlord the broadcast went off.

    Font - According to the officer, he stated that my landlord instantly spazzed out and proceeded to be in a heightened state of fear during the broadcast signal (Imao). The officer then informed me that he wasn't fully researched on if he could arrest or criminally charge my landlord, so he left and informed us to call back if he didn't turn our power back on in an hour or so.

    Font - Fast forward an hour later and the power is still not on, so I confronted my landlord and was being very verbal (take that how you will) about him shutting our power off and my intent to sue him over this. It became a very intense shouting match between me and him with him trying to justify to a mother of 3 small children why he had to randomly turn off our electric. There were two officers this time, and they told us that they legally couldn't arrest him due to him only flipping the breakers and not criminally damaging the electric breakers in any way. They also were unable to force him to turn the power back on which was absolutely unbelievable to hear from a police officer.

    Font - My landlord then came back out and finally stated he would go turn the power back on. After 2 entire hours and the police being called multiple times I was able to get a resolution. I got my power back on and my landlord somehow didn't have to get jailed over this.     Font - process has been extremely stressful for me and very overwhelming considering that I was just trying to go about my day and work from home without being bothered. I was finally able to find an attorney to consult with after the incident, and will be contacting them tomorrow afternoon to start the lawsuit process.     Font - I reached out to an attorney today to see what my options were and I got completely stonewalled by the attorney. I filed a complaint with the state yesterday regarding Gary's actions and hope there will be follow up on that. I want so badly for him to be reprimanded for what he did to all of us yesterday, but there's only so much I as one person am able to do.
